June 2019 Study Reveals Critical Gaps in Application Performance Monitoring
Are your current APM tools keeping pace with your evolving needs?
According to a 2019 study by Dimensional Research, The APM Goal Posts have Moved: A Global Survey of IT Professionals and Business Stakeholders, most survey respondents said that their current APM tools are not keeping pace with their evolving needs.
Only half are able to measure active users with real-user monitoring. Just 62% say they can monitor their entire current infrastructure. And almost everyone complained that their APM tools are overly difficult to use, requiring extra programming, complex integration, and custom reporting to make them do what the organization needs.
Even more troubling, not even half of the respondents can monitor mobile devices with their current APM tool – a big problem, considering the growth of mobile access. They’re unable to see even basic metrics, such as frequency of use and number of active users, or oversee resource usage and availability in real time.
As you move more and more business apps to the cloud, be sure to consider how well your current APM tool will work across all of your deployment options, how well it will help you support mobile users, and whether it can supply the vital business metrics stakeholders are starting to expect (such as transaction revenue and user behavior), in addition to performance monitoring.
